*The Story of Adam*
*Author: Salisu Umar Manta*
This is a story about a tribe in West Africa that used to tell their children stories about good people and bad people. They would teach them good behavior and how to be good people in their society, and how to identify bad people and stay away from them.
*Chapter One: Death of Adam's Parent*
In a village called Doro, there lived an old man named Lamido. He had two male children, Lado and Jani. Lamido was a businessman who would tell his children stories every night before they slept. One day, Jani started following bad boys in school who would smoke and commit other crimes. Jani stopped attending lectures and started getting into trouble.
One Monday, around 1:30 pm, Jani saw a small girl with money that her parents had sent her to buy oil from a shop near their house. Jani collected the money and ran away. The girl started crying and shouting "thief! thief! thief!" Three guys followed Jani and caught him, collected the money, and returned it to the girl. They also called the police officers, who handed Jani over to them.
The police officers called Lamido, Jani's father, and told him what had happened. Lamido came to the police station, crying. The police gave Lamido bail for his son and told him to take care of him. Since Lamido was a very good person in the village, people respected him.
That day became a bad day for Lamido. He started thinking about how he was going to change Jani's behavior. At night, he went to his children's room to tell them a story about a good boy facing a challenge in life.
*The Story Begins*
Years ago, there was a small boy named Adam who lost his parents in a car accident at the age of twelve. Adam had two sisters, Jennifer, his elder sister, and Jenny, his younger sister. After their parents' death, Adam was the only male in the house, and there were no helpers from their parents' family.
Life became harder, with no school fees and no food to eat. Adam decided to drop out of school and start looking for a job. On a Saturday morning, Adam went to the market looking for a job but didn't get one. He then decided to start selling pure water in the market because he had a friend named Uche whose father had a shop selling pure water.
Uche gave Adam advice to come to his father's shop and start selling pure water. Adam agreed, and Uche's father allowed him to start business with them. Adam started selling pure water, and his life and his sisters' lives started to improve. He had money to pay his sisters' school fees, and every day, he would bring food to eat together with his sisters.
Adam's dream was to have money and satisfy his sisters' needs. He loved his sisters dearly, especially his younger sister Jenny, who was a very good girl with a sharp brain. Jenny was a first-class student in school, and the school teachers were proud of her.
One day, Adam came back from the market around 9:00 pm and heard the shouting of his sisters inside the house. He ran into the house to see what was happening and met two people trying to rape Jennifer. They had closed Jenny in another room. Adam fought them, and in the process, he stabbed one of them with a knife without realizing it. The other person ran away to save his life.
The people in the area heard the shouting and came to see what was happening. They saw Adam in blood and took him, Jennifer, and Jenny to the police station to take statements. The police took Adam to a cell, and Jennifer and Jenny were crying, asking them to release Adam.
